Who We Are

Recurso

Recurso is a non-profit student organization that works to provide direct, sustainable aid to communities in developing nations, and to promote primary education, quality healthcare, and community-specific knowledge.
We hope that through heightened local awareness, events and service projects, the specific circumstances of children in these countries will be improved. Within the local community of
Gainesville, we strive to educate the public about international poverty issues, the importance of being a universal citizen and the value of community service.
We are as diverse and dynamic a student group as the people of the highly globalized world in which we live and serve.

Campus CodePINK for Peace

Campus CodePink for Peace is a grassroots peace and social justice organization that believes in ending America's wars, stopping future wars, and redirecting our resources to health care, education, green jobs and other life-affirming activities. We strive to activate and inspire UF students to promote peace through creative engagement of international peace and human rights issues and commitment to non-violence.
Our main projects include collecting letters and donated goods for US soldiers with Letters for our Heroes, fundraising for a girls’ school in Kabul, Afghanistan, and raising awareness about the most vulnerable victims of US warfare. Our main campaigns this year include Bring Our War Money Home, Demand Accountability, Support Iraqi Women, and War Is Not Green.

Invisible Children

There's war, child soldiers, and internal displacement camps that have been consuming many parts of Northern Uganda for the past 23 years, and peace is closer now that it has been in decades.
Here at UF we are working to educate students and the public about the situation in northern Uganda, promote social change through democratic and diplomatic means, and to raise funds to benefit educational needs in northern Uganda by providing volunteer/community service to the campus, community, and national organization
Main projects involve fundraising for our sister school, Awere Secondary School, in Gulu, Uganda. All our money goes directly to them and help fund the rebuilding of their school. Additionally we have a heavy focus on education, by volunteering our time at a local elementary school and educating the community about the situation in Northern Uganda.

UF Amnesty International

Amnesty International at UF fights for a number of human rights causes, with impacts both locally and globally. We will continue the battle for sweatshop free apparel at UF. We plan to help those in need in our local community. Amnesty is famous for its letter-writing advocacy and we will follow Amnesty International's prisoner's of conscience campaign, as well as lobbying local officials for human rights causes. This year we will be focusing on obtaining tangible results by working closely with St. Francis House and Project Downtown Gainesville to help combat poverty here in Gainesville.

Heal the World

Heal the World is a community service based
organization that aims to make a difference in the local Gainesville community, the state of Florida, and the world.  We do a variety of weekly and monthly service activities in Gainesville, volunteer at several events a semester elsewhere in Florida, and have about six international service trips a year during spring break, winter break, and in the summer.

Students for Justice in Palestine

In stark recognition of the failure of modern society to produce a just and reasonable solution to the Palestine-Israel conflict, Students for Justice in Palestine is founded at the University of Florida in order to promote public awareness and activism in our community.
In pursuit of this goal we aim to promote international law, human rights, and justice for all people affected by this conflict. We are directed at incorporating a diverse membership of people from all faiths and nationalities who believe in the attainability of peace.
SJP has held several events including a forum on the Goldstone Report, co-sponsoring a visit by author John Mearshiemer to UF and having a bake-sale for Haiti relief efforts. We have also staged successful street theater in order to put on display the injustices going on in the region.

ONE

The University of Florida's chapter of the ONE Campaign is a part of the national grassroots campaign and advocacy organization backed by more than 2 million people who are committed to the fight against extreme global poverty and preventable disease. ONE is nonpartisan and works closely with policy experts, African leaders, and anti-poverty activists to mobilize public opinion in support of tested and proven methods to combat poverty.  UF's chapter of ONE works to engage students and the local Gainesville community through the coordination of various awareness events, service projects, and advocacy efforts throughout the year.  Since its establishment at UF in 2008, the UF ONE Campaign has consistently been recognized as one of the top ten chapters in the country.

International Justice Mission

International Justice Mission is a human rights agency that secures justice for victims of slavery, sexual exploitation and other forms of violent oppression. IJM lawyers, investigators and aftercare professionals work with local officials to ensure immediate victim rescue and aftercare, to prosecute perpetrators and to promote functioning public justice systems. Our campus chapter seeks to raise awareness among the student population about these issues, and raise funds to support IJM workers in the field.

Human Rights Awareness on Campus

Human Rights Awareness on Campus is an organization that campaigns for numerous human rights causes and rallies the efforts of UF's student body in fighting these issues through political and humanitarian means. In the past it has hosted debates about topics ranging from state labor rights to international cases of genocide, U.S. foreign policy to the ethics of fair trade. Our mission is not only to inspire compassion among our fellow students, but to take steps to fight the underlying problems that lead to human rights violations.

Gators for UNICEF

Gators for UNICEF is an official chapter of the national growing grassroots movement: UNICEF Campus Initiative. The goal of our organization is to work for the U.S. Fund for UNICEF to educate the community about issues facing children around the world, advocate for policies to help children, and also to fundraise for various UNICEF Projects. Our money goes directly to the U.S. Fund for UNICEF! Gators for UNICEF believes in this quote:"For every child, health, education, equality, and protection Advance humanity".

Florida Alternative Breaks (FAB)

Florida Alternative Breaks (FAB) is a student run service organization that is based in the Center for Leadership and Service in the Division of Student Affairs at the University of Florida. We send out 25 community service trips during academic breaks addressing different social issues to areas within the United States and internationally.
Florida Alternative Breaks provides members the opportunity to immerse themselves in a particular social issue through education, service, and reflection. We seek to heighten social awareness and create active citizens. With the passion, knowledge, and relationships gained from their experiences, members will become life-long advocates for social justice in their communities.

The Campus Kitchen at the University of Florida

The Campus Kitchen at the University of Florida is a UF student group that focuses on food recycling in order to alleviate hunger in Gainesville. Here's what we do:

First, CKUF collects food donated from on-campus food providers (ARAMARK), Gainesville restaurants, sorority and fraternity houses, and other various locations.

Second, CKUF members gather in the kitchen in the Reitz Union basement to create, prepare, cook, and package nutritious and delicious meals.

Third, CKUF delivers these meals to local social organizations that serve those in need.

Oh, but wait, there’s more! CKUF really strives to make a long-term impact in the community. Thus, another essential goal of CKP is to empower its clientele through programs such as nutrition education, job skill training, and community involvement.

Our kitchen is conveniently located in the Reitz Union!

Teach. Reach. Feed. Lead.

Human.I.T.Y. - Innovation Through You

Human.I.T.Y.’s primary mission is to bring awareness to UF students and the Gainesville community about the atrocities against humanity occurring in African countries.

Bridges Across Borders Student Coalition

Mission: Bridges Across Borders Student Coalition is a support-based group of students that wishes to further the goals of Bridges Across Borders, a local non-profit organization. With the support of our parent organization, we are working towards a universal mission focused upon bringing people together to overcome poverty, social injustice and inequality. Focusing specifically on Latin America, we furthermore hope to dissolve the imaginary borders of neighboring countries through increased cultural awareness, the promotion of human rights, and various projects that promote non-violent resolutions.
